Mountain View Insurance – Car Insurance

We offer car insurance from many different insurance carriers. The car insurance industry is interesting because the companies are cyclical in their competitiveness. For instance, a car insurance company may want to take on more business this year and purposefully have competitive rates. As time goes on they may be eventually be happy with their client portfolio and change rates. This is a fact for every car insurance carrier. We leverage our ability to represent many car insurance companies for our clientele’s benefit.

It is interesting that many consumers of car insurance focus only on price. Unfortunately the car insurance industry has been presented as a commodity through countless TV commercials and 1-800 companies focusing on price, price, and price.

We like to take a different approach when considering car insurance. Remember, our goal is to protect, preserve, and grow our client’s assets and car insurance helps protect first and foremost. So we focus on providing: appropriate car insurance that is affordable. Notice appropriate comes before affordable and not the other way around.

Car Insurance – Maryland State Minimum Coverage Requirements

So, lets talk about coverage. In the state of Maryland there are minimum requirements which are just that, minimal. The MVA states,

all Maryland vehicles MUST be insured at ALL times by a vehicle insurance company licensed in Maryland. Your vehicle insurance must cover, at a minimum:

$30,000 for bodily injury
$60,000 for 2 or more people
$15,000 property damage”

On paper this coverage looks like $30,000/$60,000/$15,000. The first two numbers are the coverage for bodily injury liability protection. This protects the insured if they were to get sued for hurting another in the course of a car accident. The third number is for property damage coverage. This coverage protects the insured against lawsuit pertaining to damaging another parties property such as a car, mailbox, telephone pole, etc.

The State of Maryland’s minimum requirement for auto insurance is $30,000 bodily injury liability protection limit per person. $60,000 bodily injury liability protection max limit per accident and $15,000 max limit of property damage coverage.

Compare this coverage against the required minimum coverage needed to apply for an umbrella policy: $250,000/$500,000/$100,000. Big difference!
